Rangers coaches, families & friends ages 12 and up: (yes, 12 and up!)
The Rangers Academy is hosting a NEW referee course on March 27th.
This is a NEW Small Sided Referee course, allowing you to referee all matches in the states of Indiana except for 11v11 matches.
Indiana Soccer is spearheading this national Small Sided Referee movement to get more referees certified without needing to take a full referee course.
To contrast the difference between a Small Sided Referee (SSR) and a Grade 8 (grassroots) Referee (G8R), here are some facts:
- SSR minimum age is 12 years old. G8R minimum age is 13 years old.
- SSR class costs $30. G8R class costs $95.
- SSR online work takes 45 minutes. G8R online work takes 5 hours.
- SSR online test can be taken as many times as needed to pass. No pressure.
- SSR recertification costs $0 (as of now). G8R recertification costs $70 annually.
- SSRs can ref and be paid for any 4v4, 7v7, or 9v9 matches. G8Rs can work those games plus 11v11 matches.
Being a referee will:
- Help you learn the rules of the game better,
- Allow you to communicate with referees more effectively, and
- License you to referee youth soccer games (4v4, 7v7, 9v9, Indiana Soccer games/tournaments, Auburn YMCA, Garrett, NASA, etc.)

- Location: Dekalb YMCA, Door 4, 533 North Street, Auburn, IN 46706
- Date: Sunday morning, March 27th, 9:30am-12:30pm. Please arrive early.
- Wear: comfortable shoes and clothing as we will have 90 minutes of on-field training after 90 minutes of classroom work.
- Note: If the weather is nice we will start at the YMCA and finish on the turf fields. Otherwise we will stay inside at a gym in the YMCA for on-field training.
