AUBURN, Ind. (WANE) - One of the premier soccer teams in the world is lending a hand to a local soccer camp in Auburn. The Rangers Futbol Club, which is based in Glascow, Scotland, has partnered with the All Star Soccer Academy to help train players.
This week, the Rangers and the All-Star Soccer Academy are conducting a camp behind the National Military History Center (formerly the World War II Victory Museum) in Auburn.
With hand-picked, experienced coaches on hand direct from Glascow, the camp specializes in training players and improving specific skills sets. The camp was limited to around 100 players to focus on individual attention for each camper.
Hani Rabi is the Director of Coaching for the All Star Academy and the Rangers Futbol Club. Rabi says since this is the first year, the hope is that the camp just continues to grow so that no players have to be turned away in the future. From beginners to collegiate players, the All-Star Academy conforms to every type of individual.
Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, an All-Star traveling team will be selected. U11-12 year olds will tryout on Wednesday, U13-14 year olds Thursday, and 15+ year olds on Friday. There is no fee to attend the tryout.
The Rangers Futbol Club and the All-Star Academy have entered into a 10-year partnership. South Side standout DaMarcus Beasley used to play for the Rangers Futbol Club in the Scottish Premier League, but it's just a coincidence. Beasley or the fact he played for the Rangers had nothing to do with the partnership.
At the end of the camp, one lucky player will be awarded at trip to Glascow to work out with the Rangers FC.
